Medical and health services managers are responsible for supervising staff and employees, maintaining overall organization of services, and overseeing healthcare policies. They are leaders within their organizations.

In this leadership role, a person needs to have a wide range of skills and abilities. These include critical thinking and problem solving, excellent communication skills, good judgment and decision making. In addition, given the nature of the healthcare setting that they work within, it also helps to have good listening skills and compassion.

Many medical or health services managers have a Bachelor’s degree in Health Service Administration. If you are interested in more senior level managerial positions, you may also wish to further pursue a Master’s degree.
