Preschool Teacher

For many students, the preschool or Pre-K teacher is often their very first teacher, and therefore sets the stage for lifelong learning.

Preschool and Pre-K teachers typically follow curricula or lesson plans that are designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth and focus on helping the youngest students develop the life skills that we all need to learn and to grow.

A typical day for a preschool teacher can include setting up the classroom materials and equipment, and supervising interactive playtime as well as specific curriculum. As a preschool teacher, you will also be responsible for your students’ safety, establishing and keeping rules that keep them happy and healthy, as well as communicating with students’ parents and guardians.

Most preschool or Pre-K teachers start their careers with an associate degree or certificate. You’ll find programs in preschool teaching as well as in child development/early childhood. Many of these programs are designed to help you meet the requirements needed to achieve a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential which can help you stand out in the childcare and education field.
